Horizons Research ‘Learning Beyond Boundaries’ AI report

The Learning Beyond Boundaries project conducted by Horizons Research in partnership with the The Staff College and Association of Directors of Education in Scotland (ADES) is a year-long project exploring the attitudes of young people and teachers to AI in the classroom.

The initial findings found that 93.4% of teachers surveyed believed AI did have a place in the Scottish education system highlighting strong support for integrating AI within education whilst also identifying key challenges.

The study highlights call for

  • Investment in digital infrastructure to ensure high-speed internet access and AI-compatible technology in all schools, particularly rural ones.
  • Introduction of AI literacy and ethical AI use into the curriculum, starting in primary school.
  • Provision of training and professional development time for teachers to confidently and ethically integrate AI into their classrooms.
  • Development of a national AI ethics framework to safeguard data privacy and responsible AI use.
